Welcome to Tinamou #43, produced by Dave Partridge,
15 Woodland Drive, Brookline NH, 03033 (email: rebhuhn@rocketmail.com ). Tinamou now appears on the web in conjunction with TAP. The web page has everything you’ll find here including maps. Go to Jim’s index page /Postal/Zines/TAP and check it out, your comments and suggestions are welcome!TAP Home | Tinamou Home |
NEW: Tinamou now has it’s own home page (it’s still accessible through the TAP page as well) with links to the games and their rules. As I’ve been running some of the non-diplomacy games with more than one turn per Tinamou issue this makes it a lot easier to follow them. The URL is:
www.diplom.org/DipPouch/Postal/Zines/TAP/Tinamou Right now it's just links, hopefully I'll find the time to make it a bit more interesting.GAMES:
Game Openings:
Gunboat with press: One signed up so far.
Standard Diplomacy: Signed up: Fred Wiedemeyer, Hank Alme.
Perestroika Diplomacy: Add an economic twist to the classic game. Centers generate revenue, armies and fleets must be maintained, and treasuries can be sacked! Rules are available on request.
Signed up: Art Schleinkofer, Phil Reynolds, Harold Reynolds
Standard Diplomacy, Postal only: For those of you who still remember how to write. No email allowed! Game Start!
Signed up: Fred Wiedemeyer, Alexander Woo, Chris Lockheardt, Bob Dowrey, Hank Alme, John Powers, Ethan Thomas
Just the results please: Don’t really know what to call this one as I just came up with it. Perhaps it’s been tried before. The twist for this variant is that each season only the ending unit positions are published, not the orders. You’ll know who went where, but not who helped whom, or want may have been tried unsuccessfully.
Signed up: Phil Reynolds
Industrial Waste: Guest GM Richard Weiss. A new game for 3-4 players. Manager your factory and build your products, but beware, increased production means more waste, and if you aren’t careful you’ll find that working in a sludge pit affects your productivity and the bottom line.
Signed up: David Partridge
Industrial Waste:Will start when Ozone ends. Preference to players not currently in Ozone. Will start two if there's interest.
Railway Rivals: Be the first to try out Brendan Whyte’s new Queensland map.
Signed up: Brendan Whyte, Rip Gooch
Outpost: Game starts next issue. More players are welcome!
Signed up: Eric Brosius, Chris Hassler, Andy York, Kevin Wilson, Michael Lowrey
Snowball fighting: Current game ends this issue. Anyone interested in another go?
Golden Strider: It is to running what Breaking Away is to bike riding. See Tom’s szine off-the-shelf at
http://www. olympus.net/personal/thowell/o-t-s/index.html for rules and some games in progress.Signed up: Tom Howell
Sopwith: Be a World War I Ace (or perhaps a pile of smoking rubble). It all depends on what kind of pilot you are. See Phil’s ishkibibble at
www.diplom.org/DipPouch/ Postal/Zines/ishkibibble for a game in progress.Signed up: Brendan Whyte
Reader’s Choice: I’m open to anything, just send me the rules and if I think I can run it, I’ll offer it.
Deadlines:
Tinamou appears in every other TAP. The game deadlines are always the Monday before the appropriate TAP deadline, which is always a Saturday. Assuming that TAP remains on schedule, the next deadline will be ????
Breaking Away: Fat Bottomed Girls
For those who asked last time, pellaton is a term that refers to the main group of a bike race. It is in common usage and can be found in many articles, but I admit that I couldn’t find it in a dictionary anywhere! Anyone know its derivation?
Oh, and by the way, it’s still hanging together! George and Jerry jump out into the lead, would have been a break away, but they go together. Abigail’s sprint leaves her puffing along alone in third. Nobody can catch these three to first spring line, but will they have the stamina for the long haul?
Rick’s record of 75 points still stands as Jim scores a measly 74 this round! Eric pulls in 62 and Tom uses up 41 and still comes out ahead with 48. Of course it’s points, not cards that win in the end.
BBG-jerry: Our mommas laid out some nice panties for us. Wanna sniff? You'll have to get behind!
BBG-George: we love architects, Mr Van Der Lay. What's your biggest erection to date? Or don't you erect on first dates?
BBG-Kramer: Just stay with the pack, Pennypacker, these fannypackers are coming through.
Tom to BOOB: Heh! Run on a pre-determined program, you'll run into trouble. Just ask Snyder.
Tom to GM: Sure there's more than cards... Sheer luck?
GM to Tom: Well yeah, that too. And perhaps just a wee bit of thought to it as well?
Edith to BOOB: Danger zone? I LIKE danger zones...
Edith to Ian: Saaay, big boy, whatcha doing over there?
George puts his scooter into gear. "Come on, baby!"
Jerry hears George's scooter backfire.
Jerry - field: I choose to run!
Elaine - field: this is creepy. I'm next to this Donald character,
and he asks me to see my "cards", saying that he has the same cards that I do. Go away, Donald!
GM to Elaine: A lot of people wish Donald would go away!
Kramer - Jerry, George: Giddyap!
Field - Rick: You won't be hanging at the back this turn!
GM – Field: Well, Elaine’s still loafing along, but looks like she’ll put on a sprint next turn.
Field - Dans: That looks un-natural, somehow!
Ab to George and Jerry: May I tag along?
Edith to Abigail: Pull in a little closer there, gal! You're gonna need your wind for later.

Railway Rival Games
For those who are interested, the maps can be seen on the web. They don’t reproduce well here unfortunately as there is a lot of detail and it really needs color to differentiate the different rail lines. Towns in uppercase denote the first player to connect the town (6 point bonus).
Perdu (1902TC) Transcontinental USA
www.diplom.org/DipPouch/Postal/Zines/TAP/Tinamou/rr/perdu.htmWith five players we manage only three starting hexes. Mike and Eric both opt to start in Baltimore and even agree on the city name. Rip and Brendan both like E95, and being a modern marriage, we join their names to get the city of Al Quodo d'Utopia. Conrad takes a solo path and starts his drive to Cambria from B96 which the GM aptly names East Cambria. Builds only for the next round.

SPIKE - Rivals: Somebody has to start the B&O!
GM - SPIKE: Two someones!
SPIKE - GM: "Perdu"? Shouldn't it be "Trouve"?
GM - SPIKE: Call it poetic license. Only time and your tracks will tell which is more appropriate!
COB: Cambria is a small town on the central California coast, near the infamous gaudy Hearst Castle. Twenty years ago it was a collection of run-down beach shacks, but now it's something of an artists' colony with some really up-market antique outlets and like that. But the real point is that it's the southern end of the really scenic California coast that leads north through Big Sur and into Monterey and San Francisco. In other words, just exactly where I'd rather be right now.

A Cold Day in … (Snowball fighting) Turn 10
And we have a winner! Actually two. And had Shrek hit with his dirigible, it would have been a three way tie. Snowman with balls could have joined in as well by making a dirigble and hitting from close range. Nice job to all. Next time, end game statements, final guesses as to whom the players all, and the removal of the snow masks.
Press:
Kill da Wabbit, Kill da Wabbit, Kill da Wabbit!
Dalton Brothers to Boob: When I reached for my two snowballs on the kitchen ledge, I reached inside your pants and there were no s-balls in there. Then I went up your shirt and dang if you are not right, no boobs there. So, I settled for the two ice cubes I had in my hands and put some snow around it. I'm pretty dang sure that there is more damage done with the General Electric Frozen Parfait Balls then the regular snow balls. The General Electric Frozen Parfait Balls also get another advantage. The player being thrown up, of course must stand at attention and salute General Electric as the Frozen Parfait Ball approaches and that gives a +15% by reducing the defensive posture.
Dalton Brothers to those with 10 HPs: Not much fun throwing at you. One of the ding-a-lings with 11 or 12 points will surely get to 15 before y'all get sent back to the shed.
Dalton Brothers to SM: In my yard the winner always has to clean up. That means the yellow snow and the snowballs with cream up by the shed. heh heh.
SM to Dalton Brothers: There’s some incentive to stay in the kitchen!
Dalton Brothers to Shrek: The United States of Dalton Brothers has hereby declared a no snowball fly zone surrounding your northern and southern and eastern and western borders. We will enforce this with regular U2 in concert flyovers. And, you can build snoballs, but no more dirigibles of mass destruction. Got, that, or me and the rest of my buddies (buddies, hey buddies, ok, my dog and me) will drop the shed on you.
Dalton Brothers to SH: I'm going out to scour the yard for some of the Space Shuttle debris. I'm looking for some with the poisonous stuff attached. Then I put it in A-Boobs-Bra and he's automatically lost all his hair, all his victory points and all of his boobs.
Dalton Brothers: Did SM Davey tell y'all, yessiree, the winner of this game gets not only bragging rights but has won a place on the very next space shuttle to fly out of Cape Canaveral/Kennedy. They will need your special ability to throw snow balls on the wings during re-entry to help keep abnormal thermo environments from occurring. Of course, part of your work will be outside, tethered to the orbiter.
Dalton Bros to all: If this game doesn't end soon, I'm going to take back all the nice things about playing in it and my playmates. Speaking of playmates, anyone see the statistics of Playboy Centerfolds actually becoming significantly larger in the hips, somewhat larger in the waist and smaller in the bust over the past 20 years? Nah, that's right, you were all reading the articles.
