Variant Maps Supported on UKDP

Each of the different maps on which Diplomacy can be played at the DPjudge is implemented by two files. One of these is a PostScript (a graphical drawing language) file that describes how to draw the map, including how to draw, position, and color the various objects on the map (armies, fleets, arrows, supply centers, and so forth). These PostScript files (which have the file extension .ps) are in some cases used by more than one variant. The other file is a text file with a .map suffix, which includes the directives that the DPjudge needs to know in order to run a game using the map. These directives are listed in the map file documentation. If you wish to suggest a new map for implementation on the DPjudge, both of these files are required. While the .map file is simple text and can be written easily without special knowledge, the PostScript template file is currently more difficult to create, and it is advisable to obtain the assistance of someone with experience doing so.

Non-English Language Maps

Some maps are available for use in languages other than English (with the unit locations and power names translated into other languages). These are shown below. Note that at present, the text and grammar of the parts of the DPjudge output that are not controlled by the .map file — such as the words HOLD, CONVOY, SUPPORT, phase names, deadline dates and times, and text like "(* bounce, dislodged, destroyed *)" — are still in English, regardless of the map language. For this reason these maps are still in TRIAL mode, meaning you need to use the TRIAL keyword instead of MAP when creating a game.
