Okay, Tinamou checklist. Computer on. Well, I’m typing this, aren’t I? Orders at hand. Amazingly, yes, I’ve got them all. Glass of wine. Check. Jam… What? What’s that. Oh, you’re one of those. Well, Mr. Reverse Snob, yes it would normally be a beer, and there’s a fridge full of them less than 10 feet away, but my InLaws were just here and Mom wanted wine with her dinner and I’ve got some left, and I’m not going to waste it, so just put that sneer back in your pocket and save it for when the Turk promises not to open to the Black Sea, and go back to your Bud. Now, where was I. Oh yeah, James Bond movie on the tube, check. Less than a day to get this to Jim before he publishes? Check. Okay, we’re good to go….

Deadlines:

Tinamou appears in every other TAP. The game deadlines are always the Monday before the appropriate TAP deadline, which is always a Saturday. See TAP for the dates.

Russia expands rapidly. Italy loses three, but makes them up on the western front. France leaves us, and England declares lay offs in the fleet. Is Russian hegemony now inevitable?

Paris-Rome: The weather is actually nicer in Italy than in France this time of year. Just ask the Russian.

Italy to Russia - No prisoners. . .

Italy to England - Do you actually exist? A philosophical question with some real life immplications.

GM – Italy: He still exists, barely. Not so for France though

Breaking Away: Tour de Farce. Turn 8

A couple of requests to explain the tie breaker rules. They are as follows:

  1. The class of the rider (A,B,C, D)
  2. The card played this turn
  3. Highest card held in hand
  4. Previous cards played

The leaders space out quite a bit, with the second half forming a small pack. We lose Buddy who falls off his bike while trying an impromptu jam session with one of the spectators.

The four horsemen score the most, but The Abyssinian Prince already has some points in the bank and moves strongly into the lead.

Carter to Imlac: Hey, it's not like I still get intelligence briefings every morning anymore. I'm lucky I recognize my teammates, much less my opponents.

Reagan to Carter: Hey! That's MY line!

Bush to Stacy: I'm too busy skydiving to keep track of all my grandkids. Check with Bar after the race. She usually knows where they are.

Reagan to Clinton: Hey Bill, watch out! I think that's the AG coming up on you to ask some questions.

Clinton to Reagan: OH NO! NOT TH...oh, it's Ashcroft. I forgot Reno was out of office too. I've seen what happens to folks that she "interrogates".

[The med staff has removed the whistle from Gerald Ford's larnyx for the fourth time, and forceably taken it away from him, despite his protestations. He gets back into the chase vehicle, and makes the long drive to catch up to the pack. As he leans out the window to shout instructions, a robin hits him in the mouth.]

Gerald Ford: TWEET!

Famine-Insomniacs: I'm hoping there is a string of your riders in front of me this round.

GM – Famine: Well, there are some riders up there, but it’s sort of a broken string.

War-Teddies: And I'm hoping there are at least a few of your riders in front of me.

GM – War: Must have your lucky rabbit’s foot with you.

Brick-Boob: Not so fast. Stacy at 81 would be just fine with me.

Horsemen-TAP: If I read the rules right, Conquest should edge out Rasselas for the tie-breaker.

GM – Horsemen: That’s what I think too.

Death-Famine: I'm hungry for a few points!

GM – Death: Dig in!

Imlac to Rasselas: Does being your philosophical guide include helping out Princess Nekayah with her 69?

Rasselas to Imlac: As always, I trust you in all things. And besides, Nekayah is looking to experience all worldly things to judge what is right and what is wrong. You are a great teacher.

Imlac to Nekayah: We have to get off the bikes for this.

GM – Imlac: Wimp, where’s your sense of adventure?

Boob to Late Night Characters: Damn, well Stacy gets points, but SV Clinton and Segue come up short. I hope Moron played his 6, he's a huge Prisoner fan.

GM – Boob: Moron seems to like the view from behind better. And those points are still there for Seque and SV Clinton, they just put them on layaway.

Boob to SV Clinton: You lay off Hillary, now, hear? Pekuah will come over and BEAT your butt. She's leaving you in the dust where you belong. Can't see you through all that dust on the screen.....

Boob to Triumph: You're just the coach. We have a player coach in Imlac, but he's a bit busy this turn. He doesn't need any beefaroni, he has plenty of his own.

Pekuah to Bush: You can't catch my tail, you can't even catch Mistress Nekayah's. I hope you gave her a point.

Pekuah to Clinton: If you're on 69 and didn't answer the press I declare you out of the race as an imposter. You're already out of office but you can catch Mistress Nekayah's butt and would if you are really the Bill we all know and love.

GM – Bill: Well, are you going to stand up for yourself?

Boob to Warm Fuzzies: You better get a move on and leave Buddy to his just fate.

Babble from the board:

Norse to Krauts - What wass it dat I read in your press? Someting about Vikings and loose cannons? IF I find one, I loose it in your direction okay dokay?

Norse to Frogs - Ve still like YOU. Rumor iss dat ve sail to Netherlands (netherworld?) very soon. Hint hint.

Norse to Spangloes - Ve don' like you nomore. Why you taking all cold lands? No problem, ve be staying far away from you.

Spain to Germany - I am very curious why the Russians have not attacked you. Could it be that you.....No, No. Look at the Italian moves. HE must be the Russian lackey.

Spain to Italy - I told you Tunis was no problem. What's the deal with Tyrrhenian last turn? Go fight the Russians who outnumber the both of us.

Spain to France - I'm still with you my friend. Hope you took advantage of my offer.

Spain to Turkey - How can you put up with the Italian meddling. Why isn't he supporting you against the Czar?

Russia - Austria: Do you want me to help your German "buddy"?

Russia - German: Never fear, just chasing Austrians.

Russia - Spain: I thought you were. Are we ready to let the world know?

Russia - Italy: Your time will come.

Russia - Turkey: Excavations are going really well now. We should be leaving the area real soon.

Russia - France: Everything's starting to look real good. You just watch your back.

Rome - Germany: Hope my support keeps France and Spain at bay. I still don't understand Spain's relentless pursuit of control of all the Med. I am willing to work with both of you against Russia.

Rome - Spain: A pope in Avingnon again! I don't really care because the world knows he would be a fake. France might not like the idea of Spain installing a pope in Avingnon.

Rome - Turkey: How can I help?

Rome - Russia: Trieste was promised to me, not you, GET OUT!!

Germany - France, Italy, Spain, Scandinavia, Turkey, and anyone else who cares: if y'all really want me to turn my attention eastward, then I've got to have a secure western flank. That means you, Frenchy, have got to back off. I'll leave you Switzerland, but Ruhr and Burgundy have to be empty (and I'd like Belgium). And we need a resolution for the northlands. If I have to give up the cold dots, I'll have nothing left to fight with. Probably the best thing would be to wipe out Norse-boy and England (nothing personal, guys) and have the Spanish Armada come over the top with me. Then

maybe France and I can save Italy, and maybe even Turkey. All that being said, I think the odds of us all agreeing on a plan in time are virtually nil. But, hey, I'm willing to give it a go if I see all of you working for the same thing. Let's see what your next orders are...

Berlin - GM: that may be they worst negotiation in the history of the game. But it might work.

GM – Berlin: Something better, there seems to be a storm approaching you from the east!

Germany - Russia: No, I don't think it really will work.

Germany - Austria: Well, that's one less whiner in the game.

Germany - Spain: How could I expand in your direction? There is a veritable hornet's nest of activity on the left side of the board, and one move would get me stung unless I have a good ally.

Krauts - Norse: If I give you back your dots, what do I replace them with? Will you give me England? I don't think you have anything to really offer me. I agree that I'd prefer Spain fight the good fight in the southern waters, but he's here now and we've got to deal with it. You do it your way

(glub, glub), and I'll do it mine (hey, buddy!).

Germany - All: You know, wouldn't it make sense that Austria is (was) being played by Russia? Austria didn't take my help when I offered it and kept Balkans off-guard enough so that Russia could swallow both up and be positioned for Turkey! In another few years, he could everything east of

Stockholm-Berlin-Venice. Good play, friend Czar!

Game Openings:

A few more players have joined the lists, but we are still woefully short of a new game. Only 7 game starts last year that Conrad registered. Come on now, prove that this hobby isn’t dying!!

Snowball fighting

We’ll either make dirigbles do less damage, or harder to hit with to try and make snowballs more viable. Come on now, join in the fun and sharpen your press pencils!

I haven’t heard from Harry or Richard in a while, so we are not starting this issue. I’ll verify players and try to round up another couple to start next one.

Signed up: Harry Andrushak, John Schultz, Rick Desper

Jim Burgess, Richard Weiss

Perestroika Diplomacy: Add an economic twist to the classic game. Centers generate revenue, armies and fleets must be maintained, treasuries can be sacked! Rules are available on request.

Signed up: Art Schleinkofer, Phil Reynolds, Jack McHugh

Outpost: An economic game where you decide which resources to purchase and try to keep your colony viable. It’s a race to generate the most income, but resources are limited and you have to bid against the other players for them.

Signed up: Sara Reichert, Jack McHugh, Eric Brosius

Standard Diplomacy: Nothing new, nothing novel. The only twist to this game is that I strongly encourage players without email to join up. The long deadlines make it easier to get those negotiations in. That is not to say that I do not want people with email joining, but please do not do so unless you are prepared to negotiate fully with those people who don’t have email and rely on the Postal Service.

Signed up: Phil Reynolds

Black Hole Diplomacy: Watch the spaces disappear and the trips to the other side of the board get shorter and shorter. No stalemate lines in this variant. Great for those who like a free for all.

Signed up: Jack McHugh

Just the results please: Don’t really know what to call this one as I just came up with it. Perhaps it’s been tried before. The twist for this variant is that each season only the ending unit positions are published, not the orders. You’ll know who went where, but not who helped whom, or want may have been tried unsuccessfully.

Signed up: Phil Reynolds

Reader’s Choice: I’m open to anything, just send me the rules and if I think I can run it, I’ll offer it.
